Cancer is a critical societal issue. Worldwide, in 2012 alone, 14.1 million cases were diagnosed, 8.2 million people died and 32.5 million people were living with cancer.

Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally, and is responsible for an estimated 9.6 million deaths in 2018. Globally, about 1 in 6 deaths is due to cancer.

Numbers are projected to rise by 2030 to reach 24.6 million newly diagnosed patients and projected deaths of 13 million.

By the end of 2018 more than 220,000 patients have been treated worldwide with Particle Therapy.

While the rate of cancer diagnoses is growing only steadily in the most developed countries, less developed countries can expect a two-fold increase in the next 20 years or so. The growing economic burden imposed by cancer – amounting to around $2 trillion worldwide in 2010 – is putting considerable pressure on public healthcare budgets.

A fundamental change in Healthcare Markets has continued and, in some regions, is accelerating.

For example, an ongoing reduction of funding in the face of rising demand is evident in the UK. While the number of imaging and radio-diagnostic examinations has increased by 43% from 2000 until 2013, the growth of real-term funding has been stalled over the same period and is planned to go down by 2% until 2020.

In contrast is the growing focus on quality of care. In the US, 90% of payments are expected to correlate to quality or outcomes MBS (like a reduced hospital readmission rate) by 2018.

It is clear that Healthcare Providers continue to battle an ongoing tension – how to drive efficiency whilst lowering costs and at the same time improving the quality of care.

Our Solution

Managed Beam Service (MBS) uses a new mechatronics concept to re-engineer the proton therapy delivery system, with an 80% reduction in physical size for our standard 8 room modular configuration.

All equipment, including shielding, is factory-assembled and delivered to the hospital site pre-certified, with a lead time from order to delivery of one year.

Our Managed Beam Service is available to Healthcare Providers on a pay-per-treatment basis at the equivalent per treatment cost of Photon Therapy.

This Managed Beam Service (MBS) delivers assured outcomes in a manner that avoids upfront capital strain for the Healthcare Provider and covers the facility’s operation & maintenance cost.
